The Least Squares Regression Line

Example:
Find the regression line and draw it for (1,2), (2,6), (3,8), and (4,9) directly. And then, create the residual plot.

Solution:
First enter the data into 2 lists. From the statistical data list, press "F1" (GRPH) to display the graph menu, press "F6" (SET), and then change the graph type of the graph you want to use (GPH1, GPH2, GPH3) to "Scatter" graph.

To find the linear regression line, press "F1" (X). Then press "F6" to draw.

To get the residual list, while the statistical data list is on the display, recall the set up screen to specify list ("List 1" through "List 6" for "Residual List". Calculated residual data is stored in the specified list; however, you may have to redraw the regression line to get the data appears.

To graph the residual plot, press "F6" (SET) in the graph menu, and change the "Ylist" to your residual list, while keeping the same "XList".
