Fraction Sense - Part 1

"Can your students recognize whether a fraction is less than or greater than a 1/2? Less than or greater than 1? We will use the fx-300ES Plus 2 Scientific Calculator to collect data and help students look for patterns and make connections so that they construct their own meaning around the size of a fraction. Student discovery and patterns is our focus. You will leave with a ready-to-use lesson or two and share some tips and strategies with other math educators.

Be sure to check out all the free resources available to support remote learning at Casio Cares.

Certificate of Attendance available upon request after attending BOTH Part 1 & Part 2 of the Fraction Sense webinars."

Fraction Sense - Part 2

Now that students understand what a fraction is (i.e. relative size and meaning), let's explore how to help them convert fractions into equivalent representations - decimals, mixed numbers, and working with remainders. We will use the fx-300ES 2 Plus Scientific Calculator as a tool to help us do quick conversions, collect the data, and compare/contrast to develop strategies for converting. Leave with at least one ready-to-use lesson and walk with other math educators about their strategies.

Be sure to check out all the free resources available to support remote learning at Casio Cares.

Function Transformations - Part 1

How do slope and constants impact linear functions? Using the fx-9750GIII graphing calculator and it's dynamic graphing capabilities, we will walk you through ways to help students discover how different coefficients and constants transform the parent function of a line. We will use equivalent forms of a linear equation, collect data, and help students visually see the transformations and to develop meaning around coefficients and constants. You will leave with at least one ready-to-use lesson and have the opportunity to talk and share strategies around linear transformations with other math educators.

Function Transformations - Part 2

Let's explore non-linear functions, such as quadratics, cubics, trig functions and absolute value functions and see what impact coefficients and constants have on the parent functions. Through the modify option with the fx-CG50 Prizm color graphing calculator, we will walk through ways to help students visually see the impact of transformations on the parent functions and make connections that help them understand the graphs and equations. Leave with at least one ready-to-use lesson and talk and share strategies with other math educators.

Solving Equations - Part 1

What does it mean to solve an equation? We will walk you through different methods (graphing and polynomial/Equation solver) of 'solving' an equation, using the fx-9750GIII, as a way to help students understand what the 'solution' of an equation represents. When does an equation have more than one solution? What does that mean? You will leave with at least one ready-to-use activity and have the chance to talk and share strategies with other math educators.

Certificate of Attendance available upon request after attending BOTH Part 1 & Part 2 of the Solving Equation webinars."

Solving Equations - Part 2

Did you know that you can solve systems of equations with just a scientific calculator? We will walk through ways to solve systems using the Matrix and Equation Menus on the fx-991EX Plus Scientific Calculator. You will leave with at least one ready-to-use activity and have the chance to talk and share strategies with other math educators.

Calculators Live!

What type of calculator do I need? Confused about whether you need a scientific or graphng calculator for the coming year (or years)? No worries - this live session will share some of the differences and similarities and offer ideas on which type of calculator might work best for your needs. You will be able to ask questions, ask for demonstrations on specific strategies/functionality, and more. Bring your questions!!
