Facilitator: Nils DeVita Description: We live in a fast paced world with exploding technology. Everything from ordering food, trading a stocks, to buying a house, can all be done with a few thumb taps. It's impressive to think back to a time (from the 70's to 90's) when calculators were prohibited in classrooms. Today, the opposite is true. My session will show you a few simple approaches on how calculators can help students better understand math. Casio will be attending the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Conference this year in Chicago, Illinois. Expect to see many familiar faces along with some new Casio staff. We will have plenty of giveaways such as Casio branded tote bags, graphing paper sticky pads, USB squids, and fun swag such as sunglasses and perhaps even a few awesome scientific calculators. Here are a few questions we've received: Will there be anything new? Yes! You'll want to visit our booth to preview some exciting new handheld graphing technology that Casio is preparing to debut next year in the United States. 😎 Will there be any contests or prizes? Yes! This year we want teachers to sign up for our recommendation program. When you scan your badge with us on-site at NCTM, we'll set you up with your own referral code. You'll also have a chance to win $1,000 to spend at Amazon for classroom supplies or other materials. One runner-up will receive $500 to spend at Amazon. More details will be available at our booth. Winners will be announced post-conference. What Casio products will be on display? We had an awesome time last year at NCTM DC debuting the updates to ClassPad.net. You'll be able to explore some of the latest developments of this software as well as explore many of the graphing and scientific calculators we'll have on display. Looking forward to seeing you there! Casio booth at NCTM 2023 DC

The Casio fx-9750GIII graphing calculator is a powerful and affordable tool to help explore complex algebraic concepts such as systems of linear inequalities. Our ACE, Tom Beatini, demonstrates the power of the GIII using a sample problem from the New York State Regents Algebra I exam. The GIII simplifies the process by allowing students to directly input and graph inequalities in slope-intercept form, adjust viewing settings to ensure clarity, and explore the intersections of solution sets visually. The functionality to check solutions algebraically right on the device further ensures accuracy and facilitates problem-solving. By using the GIII in your classroom to help students visualize algebraic structures, they can strengthen their understanding of the underlying concepts and develop confidence in their ability to tackle mathematical challenges.

For Part A, students are expected to use a graphing calculator for "tasks such as producing graphs and tables, evaluating functions, solving equations, and performing computations" per the back cover of the free-response question booklet. Here is a quick 30-second guide on how to switch between angle modes on the Casio fx-9750GIII. The fx-CG50 PRIZM also has a similar schema. Changing Angle Measurement (2).mp4
