What can we say? It was a blast. The NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition was held this year at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois and was home and host to the Casio EdTech team. Here's the highlights:
Casio's up-and-coming graphing calculator debuts ahead of release!
The Casio EdTech team took this opportunity to introduce the next generation of graphing calculators to U.S. math educators at the Chicago conference. The upcoming fx-CG100 color graphing calculator, which will be available in 2025, is the newest addition to the ClassWiz family. Both price and specifications are expected to be comparable to the fx-CG50.
Along with its scientific counterpart, ClassWiz is designed to standardize keypad layouts across models, making it easier for students to transition between devices. Attendees that visited the Casio booth had the opportunity to browse the operating system and explore the new tabular navigation—set to replace existing function key navigation. Educators can join the waiting list to be the first in line for information and sample units when they become available.
A free browser-based graphing calculator emulator is available now!
Teachers were treated to a personalized demonstration of the fx-9750GIII graphing calculator emulator, now free to use for the U.S. in ClassPad.net. The fx-9750GIII is Casio's most affordable grapher in the market, valued at $69.99. The emulator is available in the three distinct handheld colors in addition to a "high contrast" mode. Additional features such as programming capability will be released iteratively. Educators were thrilled to discover that the emulator does not require a license to activate—simply log in with a Google account and start exploring!
In addition to the fx-9750GIII, an fx-CG50 color emulator is expected to debut in the coming months.
The partnership with Casio and Open Up Resources expands.
Casio and Open Up Resources came together last year to integrate ClassPad.net technology into the Algebra 1 Program of Open Up High School Mathematics in an effort to address challenges stemming from students' and teachers' limited access to technology resources. In addition to the integration with ClassPad.net, tutorials integrated within select lessons offer guidance on leveraging the fx-9750GIII handheld (now with free emulation), to enrich the problem-solving experience.
This year, in addition to the Algebra 1 Program, the partnership has expanded to include select modules from Open Up Resources 6–8 Math. More information can be found directly on the Open Up Resources website.
Casio featured an abundance of giveaways and drawings.
A huge congratulations to Dr. Eugene Bellamy, Jr. for winning the NCTM Passport Casio prize, a premium G-SHOCK® watch! We will also be announcing the first and second prize winners of the booth giveaway in the coming weeks ahead, along with our social media rockstar winner.
Each booth visitor was able to walk away with a durable blue Casio tote bag that included a free scientific calculator, a USB multi-dongle, graphing paper sticky notes, "I Heart Math" sunglasses, ClassWiz canvas calculator pouches, and more.
We're looking towards the future.
There is a lot to look forward to in the coming year. We're going to be busy building and enhancing technology that helps teachers cultivate passionate thinkers and boost student curiosity. We hope to see you at many of the regional conferences throughout the year and, of course, at the NCTM Annual Meeting & Expo in 2025.
